What's New- Mini Zamboni, Rink Scrapers, Concete Pads
We have recently completed some unique projects in Alberta.
These include the design of a mini Zamboni for Outdoor skating
rinks as well as rink scrappers. We have completed outdoor
rinks (before the snow flew) with full concrete pads. These
pads are becoming quite popular and create a versatile facility.
These rinks are now set up for basketball, roller hockey,
skate parks, and lacrosse. The list is endless for its use.
There are also other benefits to a concrete pad other
than obvious uses. Our clients have noticed a vast reduction
in water usage. With concrete pads flooding and freezing
of the ground is no longer required. Once the pad is cooled
from the outdoor temperature, you are ready to start making
ice. Compared to rinks on grass surfaces, the ground has
to be flooded first and then you can start ice after that
is accomplished. Additionally with the level of the pad,
it eliminates uneven pooling. In some older outdoor rinks,
the elevation changes from end to end can be greater than
2". Allot of these older rinks know how they have to fill
one end with ice just to make their surface level. Concrete
pad elevations are +/- 5mm.
As Jerome Brenner, the Owner Representative, for Richmond
Knob Hill Community Association (Calgary, AB) has stated,
"We are planning dances and BBQ's in our community. Having
this concrete pad we have a year-round facility for our
community; plus it gives a place for the kids to have fun
and stay out of trouble."
Peter Moore, Owner Representative, of Loon River First
Nation states, "I am excited for the community, and I am
looking forward to watching the kids play in the winter
and do their ball hockey routine in the summer."
CAP has also designed a Mini Zamboni that we sell to outdoor
rink ice builders. These zamboni's are mounted on mini trailers
and are designed to be pulled behind a tractor or quad.
These are heavy duty steel construction with 150 gallon
tanks. They make a more even ice surface and reduce manpower
on flooding to a one man operation.

We have also designed 2 different Ice Scrapers for outdoor
rinks. One is a steel scraper with a powder coated finish
and the other is an aluminum telescoping scraper. The aluminum
one is significantly lighter for younger/smaller people
usage.
We designed a recreational hockey 'Safe Nets'. These nets
are heavy duty steel construction and are counter balanced
properly to prevent the nets from being tipped over. They
reduce the liability issues compared to older nets.
